EQUIPMENT - Basic Course

“Teach Me Please” recommends the following:

·        The Roy Gonia Whistle is the most widely used dog whistle in America and is renowned for its pitch and tone. The Teach Me Please training course teaches how to effectively use the whistle.

·        Leather or nylon collar to wear at all times and is okay for training. If you are unable to have the desired results then we recommend the choke chain collar. (The abusive use of the choke collar by a few professionals gave a bad reputation to choke collars. Teach Me Please shows exactly when and how to use this collar effectively).

·       Choke chain collar– please take your pet to a store to be fitted.

Training collars need to be carefully measured (look in the basic DVD and workbook on how to measure for the correct size). The chain collar that used is the extra heavy duty collar. This is the collar used by most professionals. It is a quality nickel-chrom plated chain collar. The collar tightens and loosens easily. Not to be used until your dog reaches the age of approximately 5 ½ months or when the neck muscles are more developed.  This is a training tool and not meant to be left on the dog after the training session ends. The Basic course has specific instructions on its use. Most pups begin with the 18 inch and grow into the larger size.

·        Pronged training collar (optional) to reinforce the heel command.

·       6-ft leather leash - 6 ft. x 1 inch wide

To train sporting dogs one needs this 6’ x 1” wide leash. It is durable and will last and last. Unlike nylon, leather will not slip in your hand.

·        30-foot cotton lunge line (retractable leads can be used when not training the dog) This is the lead used in the basic course. It’s a training tool that is vital to keep your dog from running off. Cotton is recommended over nylon because it offers a better grip.

·        puppy-size canvas dummy  for puppies under 4 months old. Puppies as young as 8 weeks can handle the small size.

  • Training dumbbell – do not use while puppy is teething.
  • Crate – use in home and vehicle.
  •     White rubber dummy for water and field retrieves.
